FirstEnergy Names Marlene Barwood Assistant Controller, FirstEnergy Utilities
AKRON, Ohio, April 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- FirstEnergy (NYSE: FE) today announced that Marlene Barwood has been named assistant Controller, FirstEnergy Utilities. In this role, she is responsible for the management of accounting functions and internal controls for FirstEnergy's 10 regulated utility operating companies in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and West Virginia. Barwood is replacing Jon Taylor, who is now assistant Controller, FirstEnergy Solutions.

A 30-year employee with the company, Barwood joined GPU, Inc. – which merged in 2001 with FirstEnergy – as an accountant in 1982. Over the years, she held a variety of finance, accounting and management positions and was a member of the finance team during the FirstEnergy – GPU merger. In 2004, she was promoted to manager, Budget and Controls, for the company's Energy Delivery Group. In 2007, she was named director, Corporate Business Services, for the Energy Delivery Group. Following the merger of FirstEnergy and Allegheny Energy in 2011, Barwood was named director of Planning & Analysis, FirstEnergy Utilities.

Barwood earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania.
