FirstEnergy Names Jon Taylor Assistant Controller, Utilities and Kevin Burgess Assistant Controller, Corporate
AKRON, Ohio, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- FirstEnergy (NYSE: FE) today announced that Jon Taylor has been elected assistant controller, FirstEnergy Corp., assigned to FirstEnergy Utilities. Kevin Burgess, who had been assistant controller, FirstEnergy Utilities, will become assistant controller, Corporate. The changes are effective September 26, 2010.
"Jon and Kevin bring significant accounting experience – both inside and outside our company – which will be instrumental in ensuring we continue to provide transparent, accurate and timely financial reporting," said Mark T. Clark, executive vice president and chief financial officer for FirstEnergy. "This is especially important as our company continues to grow with the proposed Allegheny Energy merger."
Taylor joined FirstEnergy in 2009 as manager, Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting. He began his career with Coopers & Lybrand – a predecessor to PricewaterhouseCoopers – in Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to joining FirstEnergy, Taylor was with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Akron, working with clients such as The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and A. Schulman, Inc. Taylor is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He received a bachelor of science degree and a master of Accounting degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Burgess began his career with the company in 1999 as manager, Business Services for the W. H. Sammis and R. E. Burger generating plants. In 2002, he became director of Planning and Analysis for FirstEnergy Solutions, the company's competitive subsidiary. He was promoted to controller for FirstEnergy Solutions in 2004, and to his current position in 2005. Burgess earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics and business with an emphasis in accounting from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. He also received a master of business administration degree from The Ohio State University.
