
AKRON, Ohio, Sept. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 873,000 FirstEnergy (NYSE: FE) customers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland have been restored after losing power due to Hurricane Irene. Overall, 920,000 customers were affected by the storm.
Flooded areas, especially in northern New Jersey, made it difficult for crews to assess damage. Now that the flooding has subsided, crews continue working to restore service to the more than 46,000 customers who remain without power.
The current FirstEnergy outage totals by utility include:
- Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) – The majority of the remaining 40,000 JCP&L customers will be restored by midnight Friday, with full restoration expected by late Sunday. The largest number of customers who will be out through Sunday are in the hardest hit areas of Monmouth, Morris, Hunterdon, Sussex, Passaic and Warren Counties.
- Metropolitan Edison (Met-Ed) – The majority of the remaining 6,500 customers should be restored by Sunday.
