AKRON, Ohio, Sept. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Service has been restored to more than 840,000 FirstEnergy (NYSE: FE) customers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland after losing power due to Hurricane Irene. Overall, 920,000 customers were affected by the storm.
Crews continue working to restore service to the 80,000 customers who remain without power. The current FirstEnergy outage totals by utility include:
- Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) – Service should be restored to the majority of the remaining 69,000 customers by the weekend, with full restoration by early next week.
- Metropolitan Edison (Met-Ed) – Service should be restored to the majority of the remaining 10,000 customers by late Sunday.
- Pennsylvania Electric Company (Penelec) – The majority of customers have been restored, with repairs continuing today for some locations.
For Met-Ed customers still experiencing an outage, water and ice continue to be available at any of the following locations:
