FirstCare Health Plans Names New VP of Compliance and Government Programs

AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- FirstCare Health Plans named Sonya Henderson as the new vice president of compliance and government programs.

Henderson, a certified health care compliance professional, brings more than 26 years' experience in managed care operations, regulatory affairs and compliance to this position. Prior to joining FirstCare, she served as vice president of compliance and audit for HealthFirst in New York, where she led the company's compliance and auditing functions for five years. Preceding that, Sonya spent 19 years at Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield, where she served in a variety of operational and compliance roles, including director of regulatory affairs and compliance, and then vice president of regulatory affairs and compliance until 2007, when she went on to become the corporate compliance officer for AmeriChoice by United Healthcare in Newark, New Jersey.

Henderson earned her bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She relocated to the Austin area from Plainsboro, New Jersey, and leads FirstCare's compliance and government programs from the company's corporate headquarters in Austin.
