First-Time Author And Socialpreneur Sandra Evers-Manly Joins 'An Evening With African American Authors' As Part Of Black History Month
Manly Issues First Grants to Local Groups Based on Early Book Sales
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 15, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Sandra Evers Manly, author of Raised Up by Mrs. Manly & Her Ls released November 2018, is quickly earning positive reviews and attention for her first-ever book which extends the legacy of her mother, Mama Doris Manly and her one-word lessons for daily living and caring for others.
On Wednesday, February 20, 2019, Evers-Manly will join the City of Los Angeles' "An Evening with African American Authors." Put on by Our Authors Study Club with the office of Mayor Eric Garcetti, the event is being held in celebration of African American Heritage Month from 6:00-8:00pm at the Public Works Chambers, Los Angeles City Hall (RSVP 213/978-0254, Commissioner Mike Davis, Chair, AAHM Celebration).
Evers-Manly's appearance at the February 20th event is the latest in a series of author events and milestones. In December, the author was joined by actress Wendy Racquel Robinson (The Steve Harvey Show / The Game) at a special book signing sponsored by the Museum of African American Art (MAAA) in Los Angeles. The book was also recently ranked among the 10 best books to give someone you love by Fupping.com.
With 100% of book proceeds donated to charity, the author has issued its first grants to MAAA, in addition to Beyond the Bell and The Regalettes, two Los Angeles-based community organizations. The book has also received five-star ratings on Amazon with one reviewer calling the book, "A joyful tribute about important values for family and life," and a young reader writing the author to say, "After reading this book I learned that the letter L, is not just a letter it's more like a symbol of amazing words to live your life by."
Using one-word lessons starting with the letter "L" such as love, lean, lift and laugh, "Raised Up by Mrs. Manly & Her L's" (https://www.amazon.com/Raised-Up-Mrs-Manly-Her/dp/0999613901/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1542404385&sr=8-1&keywords=Mrs.+Manly+%26+Her+Ls, hardcover, $21.95) is a non-fiction, inspirational title that shares life lessons for raising caring, confident children based on the life examples Mama Manly used to raise her own family. Mrs. Manly's L's is a simple telling of well-worn teachings of motherly influence and positivity.
"From lifting others up and not tearing them down; to living life to the fullest; and finding time to laugh, our mother's lessons can be applied to both adults and children, serving as reminders that we need to care for one another to create a better society," said Evers-Manly, who hopes the book will revive long-lost traditions of basic kindness, community-building and love. Mrs. Manly's L's makes a great addition to any literary collection, and is a must for families, churches, libraries, educators and anyone that needs to be lifted.
An ardent philanthropist and way-maker Evers-Manly has lived her life purposefully with a passion for channeling her time and resources on behalf of under-recognized causes. Nationally recognized for her commitment to community, diversity and the arts, Sandra also maintains a strong focus on encouraging young people to excel.
