"Our mission as a church is to do God's work by supporting programs and initiatives which help those in need," said Rev. Dr. Connie Ast Caldwell, Senior Associate Pastor, First Presbyterian Church. "With our 2nd annual Habitat for Humanity Bike Ride, we are able to help make a positive contribution to Habitat for Humanity by coming together with our community and making the dream of home ownership a reality for one more deserving Broward County family."
The bike ride will raise awareness about the community's need for affordable, safe and decent housing, as well as funds from our riders and sponsors to build a Habitat home for a deserving family in Broward County. Each rider raises funds from family, friends, and neighbors in support of the ride and the cause. Sponsorship and donation opportunities for companies and individuals who aren't able to participate in the ride physically, but can give financially are also available.
Individual riders and families with older children can choose to ride along the beautiful scenic route of A1A with breathtaking views of the ocean while logging mileage in increments starting at 15 miles or go as far north as the Palm Beach inlet (50 miles) before turning around. Families with smaller children have the option of riding around the beautiful, lush green landscapes of the Colee Hammock neighborhood that surrounds the First Presbyterian Church campus. At the conclusion of the bike ride, all riders are invited to return to First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale to enjoy a family-friendly BBQ and fellowship.
Habitat for Humanity has been active in Broward County for 30 years. Since 1983, more than 500 volunteers from the First Presbyterian Church have given their time, talent, and treasure to raise funds, awareness and build safe, decent and affordable homes for families in need. This home will be the 19th completed home built by volunteers from First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale.
