"Habitat provides a great opportunity to serve the Broward County community," said Kelley Jackson, Habitat for Humanity Mission Partnership Committee Member. "Since 1983, more than 500 volunteers from First Presbyterian Church have donated their time, talent and treasure to construct 18 homes for families in Broward County through Habitat for Humanity, and we are thankful to be able to continue to give back through this Bike to Build event."
The ride kicks off at 7:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale, 401 Southeast 15th Avenue, and will continue on a scenic 25-mile route along Las Olas Boulevard and A1A North to Hillsboro Inlet then back along A1A South to Las Olas Boulevard and ending back at the church.
"The ride is open to families and cycling enthusiasts of all ages and experience levels," said Jackson. "Participants, including families with young children, can choose what portion of the route they would like to ride."
To register, visit www.firstpres.cc/bikeride.asp and complete the online registration form or download the printable form and submit it on race day. All payments will be accepted at registration on race day. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m.
The church's Habitat for Humanity Mission Partnership Committee will need to raise $70,000 to begin construction on the home in Broward County. Once the funds are raised, Habitat for Humanity of Broward County, with the help of volunteers, will conduct a family selection process where they determine, based on income and the ability to maintain a mortgage, the family who will receive the 19th home.
