First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale Announces 2013 Advent Season Schedule of Events
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The four Sundays before Christmas and the weeks in between them mark the liturgical period of Advent – a time of spiritual preparation and focus on the coming of our Lord. In celebration of the upcoming 2013 Advent season, First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale invites all to celebrate the Christmas traditions of young and old. From the Hanging of the Greens to the Annual Christmas Concert, a variety of exciting events will give all the opportunity to experience, worship and welcome the Christmas holidays in the weeks leading up to December 25, 2013.
The First Presbyterian Church of Ft. Lauderdale 2013 Advent Schedule of Events Includes:
- Sunday, December 1 at 5 p.m. – Hanging of the Greens
Kick-off the advent season with a full Scottish pipe and drum band leading the processional for a memorable service that includes children and youth choirs caroling, a blessing of the newborns and a post-service gathering in the fellowship hall for holiday cookies and traditional wassail. - Wednesday, December 4 at 6:45 p.m. – Experience Christmas!
An opportunity to experience Christmas through music by Anthony Zoeller in the Sanctuary following the Wednesday Night Live! Dinner. - Wednesday, December 11 at 6:45 p.m. – Experience Christmas!
Another chance to intensify your Christmas experience with traditions by Kathy Craven and Betty Ann Smith in the Sanctuary following the Wednesday Night Live! Dinner - Sunday, December 15 at 10 a.m. – Annual Christmas Concert
A traditional worship service with Conductor Robin L. McEachern leading the Cathedral Choir, Orchestra and members of the Symphony of the Americas as they perform the glorious music of Christmas. - Tuesday, December 17 at 5:30 p.m. – A Starry Night
Dine in the St. Andrew's Room and then join Mary and Joseph for a "Walk Through Bethlehem" as we bring the story of Christ's birth to life. Hosted by the Children's Ministry, family members of all ages are encouraged to touch, smell and taste what life was like during this miraculous time. Scripture and the arts of the holiday season will be celebrated in the Sanctuary following Wednesday Night Live! Dinner. - Tuesday, December 24 – Christmas Eve Worship Services
5 p.m. – A family service featuring the music of the FirstPres children's choirs
8 and 10 p.m. – Two candlelight communion services featuring sacred music, Holy Communion and the traditional lighting of candles
