Dr. Patricia Arredondo Brings Higher Education and Private Sector Multicultural Expertise to Institution
CHICAGO, Dec. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dr. Michele Nealon-Woods, national president of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (TCSPP), a nonprofit graduate school devoted exclusively to psychology and related behavioral and health sciences, announces the appointment of Dr. Patricia Arredondo as the new president of the school's largest campus located in the heart of Chicago. She is the first Latina to serve in this prestigious role at TCSPP.

Dr. Arredondo, a licensed psychologist bilingual in English and Spanish, was formerly with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) where she was associate vice chancellor, interim dean for the School of Continuing Education and professor of educational psychology. Prior to UWM, she served as senior vice president for University Student Initiatives and Student Affairs at Arizona State University. She is also the vice chair of the Social Development Commission, the largest anti-poverty agency in Wisconsin.
Dr. Arredondo has an extensive scholarship record with a focus on multicultural counseling competency models; multicultural guidelines in psychology, immigrants and life-change processes; Latina/o issues in counseling; social justice advocacy; and organizational diversity assessment. In addition to contributing to more than 100 scholarly publications, she has served as president for several professional associations, including the American Counseling Association (ACA), the American Psychological Association's Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues, the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development, and the National Latina/o Psychological Association.
Recognizing her contributions to multicultural counseling, Dr. Arredondo has received the "Living Legend" award from the ACA, an Honorary Degree from the University of San Diego because of her multicultural scholarship, and holds Fellow status with the American Psychological Association. Dr. Arredondo earned her doctorate in counseling psychology from Boston University.
