First Investors Says Thank You to Nation's Educators During Teacher Appreciation Week
NEW YORK, May 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ - Teachers are truly special people who can have a lasting impact on young lives. Everyone can name at least one educator who touched their life in a unique way. So during Teacher Appreciation Week this May, First Investors would like to say thank you to all those teachers who help mold the lives of our children and remind school districts of the many resources the firm makes available to assist them.
Eleanor Roosevelt asked Congress to find a day to acknowledge the work of the nation's educators back in 1953. Today, Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated in 87 countries throughout the world at different times of the year.
"Teachers spend a significant amount of their time, both work-related and personal, on their profession, and some educators even spend their own money on school supplies to help their students have a better learning experience," explains Paul Prete, Vice President, for Retirement Programs at First Investors. "That's why we have been helping to assist schools in over 1,800 districts across the country since 1974," he said.
"With the demands placed on school districts today, First Investors is happy to provide financial services that help the teachers, the schools and the students," Prete added.
First Investors gives back to schools by sponsoring teacher/staff appreciation breakfasts and lunches, back to school nights, educator of the month awards/gifts, service recognition awards, PTA events, "lunch and learn" seminars, and fundraising projects for school supplies, activities or building improvements.
First Investors is also committed to the educators themselves by presenting financial education workshops, such as Understanding Social Security and Retirement Planning, State Teachers Retirement Pension Plans, 403(b) programs, and sponsoring Financial Literacy retirement benefit and open enrollment days.
Prete went on to explain, "In today's society, teachers are more challenged than ever, with changes to testing programs in some states, computer technology, distractions from social media, cell phone use, instances of bullying, and other external forces that compete for our children's attention. We're glad that we can offer the educational community some assistance in meeting their school's needs, as well as their own personal financial needs, so they can dedicate more time and energy to educating our children."
During Teacher Appreciation Week this May, take a few moments to thank your child's current or former teacher, or track down one of your own past teachers who had a significant impact on your life and say "thank you."
