First-Ever Mosquito Control For Homeowners To Employ Attractive Targeted Sugar Bait Technology
New Terminix® AllClear® Mosquito Bait & Kill Feeds Mosquitoes So They Don't Feed On You!
DALLAS, May 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Pest Solutions, LP, a leading mosquito control product manufacturer, announced today the nationwide launch of its Terminix® AllClear® Mosquito Bait & Kill spray. Bait & Kill is the first and only ready-to-use consumer product that employs the patented Attractive Targeted Sugar Bait (ATSB®) technology enabling homeowners to safely and effectively collapse mosquito populations in their own backyards.
Bait & Kill is a major departure from current mosquito controls that either repel for a short time only or must make contact to kill. Bait & Kill attracts mosquitoes with a proprietary sugar bait and then kills them with a safe, EPA-exempt, ingestible toxin -- microencapsulated garlic oil. Field studies show mosquito populations are reduced by more than 90 percent just two to three weeks after using Bait & Kill.* Reapplication every four weeks keeps the populations down.
More than 10 years of scientific research went into developing the patented ATSB technology and exacting the proprietary sugar bait in Bait & Kill, yet the science is simple. While only female mosquitoes bite, males and females require regular feeding on plant sugars to survive. Bait & Kill taps into that innate biological need and delivers a targeted one-two, bait and kill punch. Bait & Kill also represents the first time researchers have been able to manufacture a retail product using ATSB technology.
"Bait and kill approaches have long been used to control other insects and pests, but this is the first time science has identified one for mosquitoes, and one that is safe for people and the environment," says Laura Uggerholt, president, Universal Pest Solutions. "We are honored to be the first company to bring this cutting edge mosquito control to backyards across America."
Bait & Kill is considered the first significant advancement in backyard mosquito control in more than a decade that effectively utilizes ATSB technology to bait and kill one of the world's most dangerous and annoying pests. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 1 million people worldwide die from mosquito-borne diseases every year. In the United States, West Nile virus has been reported in every mainland state since first being detected in 1999. Mosquitoes also transmit other devastating viruses to humans such as encephalitis, dengue, Chikungunya and yellow fever.
Simple and Ready-to-Use
When used as directed, Mosquito Bait & Kill starts killing mosquitoes within 24-48 hours and has been shown to collapse populations in treated areas by more than 90 percent within two to three weeks. Bait & Kill controls a treated area for up to four weeks, depending on weather conditions. To use, simply spray Bait & Kill on non-flowering foliage or non-porous surfaces either at the perimeter or in select spots in the backyard. At four weeks, reapply for continued control or sooner if desired.
Proven Efficacy and Additional Benefits
ATSB has been tested on numerous mosquito species and environments in the U.S. and abroad. There are more than 21 published papers in scientific journals including Acta Tropica and Malaria Journal supporting the efficacy of the ATSB process and its other benefits over current control methods:
- Effective against a variety of mosquitoes including the difficult to control Asian Tiger mosquito.
- Formulated and applied to attract and kill mosquitoes only. It does not attract beneficial insects like honeybees or butterflies.
- No known resistance to ATSB, a significant advantage over current controls that increasingly require larger or more frequent applications to be effective.
This April, Terminix AllClear Mosquito Bait & Kill will be available at select Target and Lowes stores, and online at Amazon.com, target.com and lowes.com. It is sold as a twin pack of two 15 OZ cans for an MSRP of $12.99. 30 OZ protects 5,000 sq. ft. For more information, visit www.baitandkill.com.
