Persil ProClean's stain-fighting formula was developed to stand up to tough stains that Americans encounter every day – including the day of the Big Game. Having performed over 10,000 laundry stain evaluations, Persil's top-notch team of experts turned their attention to consumer experiences during the biggest football day of the year. They engaged Survey Sampling International's (SSI) world-class market research expertise to conduct a Persil ProClean stain survey interviewing 10,000 Americans across the country. Participants were split evenly between male and female, and had watched at least part of The Big Game within the past three years.
Among the trends identified, Persil found that:
- Almost 2/3 of participants (64%) had spilled food on their clothes while watching The Big Game or attending a party for the game
- 41% of participants who spilled food on their clothes while watching The Big Game found barbecue (chicken, burgers, ribs, pulled pork, etc.) to be the toughest stain to remove
- The three toughest game day stains were:
- Barbecue 41%
- Wings 18%
- Chili 17%

- 73% of participants who spilled food on their clothes credited the stain to "Not paying attention while eating/too focused on the game"
- 88% of participants who spilled food on their clothes admitted causing the spill themselves
- 41% of participants who spilled food on their clothes while watching The Big Game found barbecue (chicken, burgers, ribs, pulled pork, etc.) to be the toughest stain to remove
- Over half of the participants (53%) had spilled beverages on their clothes while watching The Big Game or attending a party for the game
- 20% of all participants have had to change their clothes during game time because of a beverage or food spill
- 49% wash their sports clothes in preparation for The Big Game
Additional Game Day Insights:
- Less than 50% of all participants credited the actual game as what they enjoy most about The Big Game
- 26% credited commercials
- 33% of women polled, watch the game primarily for the commercials
- 12% credited food and beverage
- 4% credited half-time performance
- 1% credited singing of the national anthem
- 26% credited commercials
- 84% of all participants admitted to having licked their fingers during The Big Game instead of using a napkin
- When asked why they licked their fingers instead of using a napkin, 48% of participants answered, "What… there's something wrong with that?"
- 15% of all participants have previously called in sick the day after The Big Game
