First Dedicated Conference on VR's Impact on Healthcare Coming to DC
Opening event for a series of conferences on VR's impact on different industries arrives in Washington D.C. June 1st
WASHINGTON, May 26, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- VR Voice, a content vertical on all things virtual reality, is launching the first dedicated conference focused on the impact that virtual reality will have within healthcare. The Virtual Reality and Healthcare Symposium will be held 8:00 am-5:00 pm EDT, Thursday June 1 at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. A full day of presentations, exhibitors and networking will bring together over 19 speakers from across the country and throughout the healthcare industry to discuss and discourse on the ways that VR tech is changing lives and healing bodies.
"Virtual reality technology is an innovative visualization platform that facilitates an intuitive communication between healthcare providers and patients, resulting in enhanced understanding of the treatment plan and consequently, higher patient satisfaction," said Moty Avisar, CEO and Co-Founder of Surgical Theater.
"Our focus with Surgical Theater's Precision VR is to allow the surgeon to guide his or her patient through a surgical plan by virtually stepping into a patient-specific 360-degree VR reconstruction of their anatomy and pathology," Avisar said. "The surgeon and the patient walk between the pathology and vessels, and by turning their heads can see the skull base at their feet, the brain tissue behind their back, and vessels to their right and left. This same 360-degree VR reconstruction is equally essential to the surgical team for pre-operative surgical planning, and in the operating room visualization."
Dr. Jesse Pines, the Director of the Center for Healthcare Innovation & Policy Research at George Washington University, will be welcoming attendees to the Symposium after an introduction by VR Voice Founder & CEO Robert Fine. A keynote by Dr. Walter Greenleaf, visiting Scholar at the Stanford University Virtual Human Interaction Lab, and a networking break kick the morning off, followed by a loaded roster of presentations by Dr. Neil Martin, Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at UCLA, the Nerdy Vet Dr. Christopher Queen, and CEO & Co-Founder of autism therapy start-up Floreo, Vijay Ravindran.
After a lunch break, the symposium continues with two tracks featuring more heavy-hitting speakers including JarMarcus King (J&F Alliance Group), Timothy Porter (IDEGO), Dr. Brady Evans (Harvard University & OssoVR), Dr. Jonathan Sherman (George Washington University), Eric Williams (Ohio University), Dr. Petra Williams (Northern Arizona University), Ben Barone (Coresights), Dr. Osamah Choudhry (NYU Medical Center), Eran Orr (VRPhysio), Matthew Stoudt (appliedVR), Dr. Neal Sikka (George Washington University), and Andrew Wiss (George Washington University).
In addition to the speakers, the symposium also will host a variety of exhibitors and arrange for several VR demonstrations so attendees can try out VR and some of the new medical applications.
One of the Symposium's sponsors, Creating IT Futures, will give each attendee a free copy of the new book by CEO Charles Eaton, How to Launch Your Teen's Career in Technology: A Parent's Guide to the T in STEM.
