First Book Wins Target's 'Best of the Bullseye' Award

WASHINGTON, May 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- First Book has been honored with the annual 'Best of the Bullseye' Award from Target in recognition of the successful collaboration between the two organizations. With Target's support, First Book distributed 1.2 million new books to children from low-income communities in 2010.

Target gives 'Best of the Bullseye' awards in several categories; First Book received the award for collaboration.

In September, Target donated one million books through First Book to elementary school students across the country to kick off Target Read With Me(SM), the company's reading initiative, which aims to help more U.S. children read proficiently by the end of third grade. Through this initiative, Target aims to bring greater awareness to the education crisis in America, reinforce the important role reading plays in shaping a child's future, and provide access to the tools and resources needed to help kids stay on the path to graduation.
