"At First Book, we harness the power of the private sector to advance social change," said Kyle Zimmer, First Book's president and CEO. "Our partnership with Target has led to enormous successes; together we are helping children across the country become proficient readers. We're proud of those efforts, and delighted to receive this award."
Target gives 'Best of the Bullseye' awards in several categories; First Book received the award for collaboration.
In September, Target donated one million books through First Book to elementary school students across the country to kick off Target Read With Me(SM), the company's reading initiative, which aims to help more U.S. children read proficiently by the end of third grade. Through this initiative, Target aims to bring greater awareness to the education crisis in America, reinforce the important role reading plays in shaping a child's future, and provide access to the tools and resources needed to help kids stay on the path to graduation.
