ABINGDON, Va., July 29, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- First Bank & Trust Company stepped up to help a local high school student reach her goal to raise money for the United Way of Southwest Virginia's Backpack Unite program. Virginia Pillion will be a senior at Abingdon High School this fall. In early July, she began raising money for United Way of Southwest Virginia's Backpacks Unite Program with a goal of collecting $15,000. First Bank & Trust Company rose to the occasion to contribute $7,000 toward the cause. Some of the funding came from a corporate donation, but a large portion of the funding came from First Bank & Trust Company employee contributions as part of the First Bank & Trust Company Cares community giving program, commonly referred to as #FBTCares.
President and CEO, W. Mark Nelson commented about the donation, "We were happy to contribute to Virginia's efforts in addressing food insecurity to ensure that no child in Southwest Virginia goes hungry on the weekends during the school year."
Virginia's efforts are contributing to the quality of food that will be available to children in need. To help Virginia raise funds to provide more protein-rich items, text BackpacksUnite to 41444.
