Firestone Metal Products Facility in Anoka, Minn., Earns Governor's Safety Award
Award recognizes exceptional safety performance in the industry
INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Firestone Metal Products facility in Anoka, Minn., has been awarded the Meritorious Achievement Award in Occupational Safety by The Minnesota Safety Council, a Governor's Safety Award for superior performance in workplace safety and health. Firestone Metal Products is a division of Firestone Building Products Company, LLC. The Anoka plant is one of four Firestone facilities that manufacture metal roofing products.
Firestone Metal Products was recognized for its commitment to safety as part of the annual Governor's Safety Awards program to honor Minnesota employers with exceptional safety performance. Applicants are judged on several years of injury data as it compares with their industry's national statistics, and on their progress in implementing a comprehensive safety program. Meritorious Achievement is awarded based on incident rates that are better than the industry average for at least three years, and a score between 50 and 74 on a 100-point safety program evaluation scale.
"Workplace safety and health are top priorities for Firestone," said Steve Williams, plant manager. "We understand that all of our teammates need to take a proactive approach to safety. We are pleased to receive the Governor's Safety Award, which validates and reinforces our company-wide commitment."
Carol Bufton, president of the Minnesota Safety Council, said, "An effective safety program reduces injuries and costs, maximizes productivity and builds morale. Employers like Firestone Building Products understand that protecting employees is not only the right thing to do – it's also good business."
