Fired Fox Sports Anchor and Airman Threatened with Court Martial to Address Values Voter Summit
WASHINGTON, Oct. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Two individuals who have been singled out because of their religious beliefs will be speaking at Family Research Council Action's (FRC Action) 2013 Values Voter Summit (VVS), held October 11-13 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Craig James was a Fox Sports football analyst who was fired after the network learned that he had expressed his marriage views during his race for the U.S. Senate. He will be sharing his story of religious discrimination on a general session panel during the Summit. Also attending is Senior Master Sergeant Phillip Monk, a 19-year active duty soldier who was recently read his Miranda rights after telling his lesbian commander that another service member shouldn't be punished for promoting natural marriage. Liberty Institute is providing legal representation for both men.
FRC Action President Tony Perkins said:
"Craig James and Phillip Monk are two examples of ordinary Americans whose livelihoods have been threatened just for expressing religious beliefs that run contrary to political correctness. They are coming to the Values Voter Summit to encourage others to be bold and passionate – because the other side already is. It's time that we stand up for our beliefs just as passionately."
The eighth annual summit, which is expected to draw grassroots activists from across the country, will have a speaker line-up that also includes U.S. Senators Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and Tim Scott, as well as former Sen. Rick Santorum and Reps. Paul Ryan, Michele Bachmann, Jim Bridenstine, Louie Gohmert, Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise, along with former Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Rep. Allen West and commentators Mark Levin and Glenn Beck. For a full list of confirmed and invited speakers, visit www.valuesvotersummit.org.
The summit will also feature a straw poll of likely and potential GOP candidates for the 2016 presidential race. The straw poll's results will be announced at a press conference on the afternoon of Saturday, October 12.
The summit is sponsored by FRC Action along with AFA Action, American Values, The Heritage Foundation, Liberty Counsel Action, Liberty Counsel and Family Research Council. An exhibit hall, book signings, breakout sessions, a job fair and much more will be packed into this three-day conference. On Saturday evening, Family Research Council will award Edwin J. Feulner, Ph.D., founder and former president of The Heritage Foundation, with its 2013 Vision and Leadership Award.
