Firearms Industry Member Companies Head to D.C. for Congressional Fly-In
NEWTOWN, Conn., April 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) – the trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry – will host its annual congressional "fly-in" for executives from industry companies next week. These executives will meet with key congressional leaders on legislative and regulatory issues important to the industry, such as safeguarding the rights of sportsmen to continue to use traditional ammunition which anti-hunting groups are trying to ban, improving the ability of U.S. manufacturers and distributors to compete in an increasingly global economy while maintaining national security by modernizing the U.S. export control system that currently impedes business, and seeking a comprehensive federal study of firearms microstamping – a flawed and unreliable concept being promoted by gun-control groups. In addition to meeting with congressional leaders, Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.) and Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.), a co-chair of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus and the Second Amendment Task Force, are expected to speak to the group.
As part of the fly-in, NSSF will be running ads in D.C. area publications reminding legislators of the firearm industry's economic impact on the nation's economy and the pivotal role excise taxes collected from the industry play in funding wildlife conservation throughout the United States.
"For more than 200 years, America's firearms and ammunition industry has made products that have been part of our country's tradition of freedom, self-reliance and enjoyment of the outdoors," said NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane. "Making our industry's voice heard in the halls of Congress will help ensure that this great tradition continues and that our industry members can continue to grow their businesses and create good-paying jobs in their communities."
