Fire Protection Group, Inc. Endorses L.A. Plan to Promote Smoke Alarm Use
While Mayor Garcetti and the LAFD have started a new campaign to promote effective smoke detectors, Fire Protection Group, Inc. provides essential security, today
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Los Angeles Daily News reports that the Los Angeles Fire Department and city government is planning to make significant strides toward reducing residential fire deaths throughout L.A. "My back-to-basics agenda for Los Angeles is about focusing on City Hall on our most important priorities, and emergency preparedness is at the top of that list," says Garcetti. Fire Protection Group, Inc. and other companies involved in prevention and safety are therefore preparing for added interest from owners and managers of both business and residential buildings.
One of the core factors of the new plan is a push to get working, up-to-date fire alarms into homes and other buildings. "Smoke alarms save lives," stated Mayor Garcetti, "so we are spreading the word and making sure Angelenos know that we have smoke detectors available for free." The mayor's efforts come in response to the growing fire danger in L.A. Thus far this year, there have been twenty fatalities in the city related to structure fires, and in sixteen of those cases, the building had no working smoke or fire alarm. The importance of alarms might seem obvious, but what these statistics illustrate is the importance of a fire defense system that is effective at all times. That's why so many high level government officials, municipalities and inspectors throughout the L.A. area have turned to companies like Fire Protection Group.
A Necessary Role for Fire Safety Experts
The team at FPG, Inc. is led by George Saadian, the company's general manager and lead engineer. Mr. Saadian has worked in the field of fire protection for three decades, and in that time, he has become a trusted name in the field, having submitted many necessary revisions to the National Fire Protection Association standard. At FPG, Inc., Mr. Saadian has built a team that is equally adept and dedicated to fire safety, including respected members of the LAFD community like retired Captain Bob Holloway and former LAFD Chief Al Hernandez.
Captain Holloway and Chief Hernandez bring a proven record of success to the engineering, consulting, testing and other services offered at FPG, Inc., and they're certainly pleased to see that their associates at the LAFD are taking an active role in promoting smoke alarms, as well. In fact, as part of the government plan, the LAFD will begin a pilot program in Watts to expand its smoke alarm education program to include regular neighborhood fire safety education. They also plan to create an LAFD Fire Casualty Reduction Task Force that will examine the data around any residential structural fire in which there is an injury or death, briefing Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas within 72 hours.
An Immediate Response to a Current Threat
While it's heartening to see that the LAFD and city government beginning to take an active role in promoting effective, reliable fire prevention resources. However, it's also a reminder that fire danger in the city is perhaps greater today than ever before. Fortunately, while the city program is getting off the ground, Mr. Saadian, Captain Holloway, and Chief Hernandez can still ensure that your structure is protected from the dangers of uncontrolled fire.
