ABOUT FIRE CHIEF MICHAEL LOUIS KUK, PH.D.

Dr. Kuk has over 47 years experience as a Certified Firefighter and Chief Officer. A Vietnam War Veteran, he is the Senior Fire Chief for the Department of Defense/U.S. Army and has held the position of Fire Chief in Fort Polk, Louisiana since 2004. Dr. Kuk serves as the Directorate of Emergency Services Chaplain at Fort Polk. He is a Guest Instructor at numerous schools and organizations. While off duty, Dr. Kuk serves as the Chief Fire Chaplain for the Vernon Parish Fire Protection District. His career has included working with several fire departments and holding a variety of fire safety positions within the chemical industry. Dr. Kuk has received numerous honors and awards including being given the title of Chief Fire Officer by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International in 2004. He is a Master Musician and a 2006 inductee of the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame with his band the "Union Jacks". Dr. Kuk has written over 100 peer-reviewed articles, 18 books and created 8 inventions. He is a world authority on Roman firefighters. Dr. Kuk is affiliated with numerous national and international organizations. He received his Ph.D. as Doctor of Ministry and Chaplain from Byzantine Catholic. In his spare time he enjoys playing keyboards and collecting fire memorabilia.
