Fingerprint Readers with DigitalPersona Silicon-based Sensors Certified for China Resident Identity Card
Two leading manufacturers of fingerprint readers incorporating TouchChip TCS1 sensors into their solutions
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Jan. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- DigitalPersona, Inc., a trusted partner for biometric identity verification solutions, today announced that its TouchChip® TCS1 sensor is the only silicon sensor used in fingerprint readers certified by the Ministry of Public Security under general technical requirements for fingerprint capture device GA / T 1011-2012 for the China Resident Identity Card. Miaxis Biometrics Co., Ltd. and Shandong Synthesis Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. — both Chinese manufacturers — have leveraged DigitalPersona's high-performance silicon sensor to meet the certification requirements while bringing speed and economy to the fingerprint capture process.
As of January 2012, the new China Resident Identity Card Law requires citizens to have their fingerprints recorded when applying for, renewing or replacing their resident identity cards. China has more than a billion resident ID cards in circulation and that number is expected to grow. Citizens use their ID cards when voting, buying homes, accessing government services and other essential activities. "With such a large population and wide range of applications, fingerprint biometrics is the most logical choice, from both a security and a cost perspective," said Richard Agostinelli, president and CEO at DigitalPersona. "It's an impressive identity program and we're thrilled that Miaxis and Synthesis selected our silicon sensor to be part of it."
In addition to fingerprint readers certified for the China Resident Identity Card, DigitalPersona's TouchChip sensors have been successfully integrated into bank ID terminals. This identification solution allows banks in China to guard against teller fraud by providing a biometric audit trail of financial transactions.
In other parts of the world, DigitalPersona's wide selection of silicon touch and swipe sensors have been deployed by public and private enterprises for a variety of applications, including logical and physical access control, mobile identification and other government services. "Our silicon solutions have been a popular choice for applications where fast capture and excellent biometric performance are top priorities," Agostinelli said. Key features include high reliability, a compact design and low power requirements. For more information, visit www.digitalpersona.com/sensors.
