WASHINGTON, Aug. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- FINCA International, a pioneer in market-based solutions to poverty through microfinance and social enterprise, is pleased to announce that Judith Reyes has joined the organization as General Counsel. As the senior legal officer for FINCA International, Judith will be responsible for managing legal risk and compliance and providing comprehensive legal advice.
Judith is a seasoned attorney with progressive legal experience in tax-exempt charitable organizations and corporate firms. In her immediate prior role, Judith served as the Associate General Counsel for The Rockefeller Foundation, a private foundation that promotes the well-being of humanity throughout the world. As Associate General Counsel, Judith oversaw corporate legal and compliance matters as well as grant management and program-focused legal work. She is adept at overseeing policy, governance and ethics for not-for-profit corporations, with expertise in legal matters concerning intellectual property and external communications. Before The Rockefeller Foundation, Judith worked as a Legal Advisor for Conservation International, providing legal support for grants of endowment capital, overseeing loan transactions, conducting due-diligence on external partners, and managing risk. Judith began her career in law as a Corporate Associate at two firms—Andrews Kurth LLP and Bracewell & Giuliani, LLP—working in the areas of finance, mergers and acquisitions, securities and corporate law.
"FINCA International is fortunate to operate innovative programs supported by corporate, foundation, bilateral and multilateral partners around the world," said Rupert Scofield, President and CEO of FINCA International. "As such, it is critical that we deepen our abilities to assess legal risk and compliance for a multitude of funding sources and programs in some of the world's most challenging markets, while adhering to all the requirements of a tax-deductible charitable organization."
Judith had this to say: "I am thrilled to join the senior management team at FINCA International, a recognized leader in sustainable approaches to poverty alleviation. It is a natural extension of my prior work in the nonprofit sector. FINCA is known and trusted by microentrepreneurs around the world. I welcome the opportunity to continue to build and strengthen this leading brand so that more low-income people may have access to financial services and other high-quality products that can help raise their standard of living."
