Net income for the quarter stood at $378 million or $1.23 per diluted share, compared to $361 million or $1.13 per diluted share in Q3 FY 2013. For Q3 FY 2014, FedEx's operating income increased 8.8% YoY to $641 million. The Company stated that the increase in operating income resulted despite the impact of severe winter weather. Commenting on the results, Frederick W. Smith, FedEx Chairman, President and CEO, stated, "Historically severe winter weather significantly affected our third-quarter earnings. On days when the weather was closer to normal seasonal conditions, our volumes were solid and service levels were high. The FedEx strategy of maintaining separate express and ground networks with multiple hubs proved to be an especially important advantage for our package customers during this quarter's severe weather and peak shipping." The Company added that it also entered into accelerated share repurchase agreements during the quarter to repurchase an aggregate of $2.0 billion of its common stock. FedEx said that it projects its Q4 FY 2014 earnings to be $2.25 to $2.50 per diluted share, and earnings of $6.55 to $6.80 per diluted share for FY 2014.
