The entry period is complete, and the five finalists in each category (elementary, middle and high school) have been chosen for the 2011 Henkel Helps Get Kids Fit Contest -- now it's up to YOU to decide which schools will win $10,000 each! The sponsor of the contest, Henkel, is the company behind some of the nation's leading consumer brands such as Dial® soaps, Purex® laundry detergent, Renuzit® air freshener, Right Guard® antiperspirant, and Soft Scrub® household cleaners.
Parents, teachers and community members were encouraged to visit www.HenkelHelps.com to nominate their local school by answering a fundamental question: "What would your school do with $10,000 to improve youth fitness?" Henkel Helps Get Kids Fit exists to make a change and improve the health and fitness of an entire generation by making a difference in physical education programs. Each year in the U.S., only $764 per school is spent for physical education programs to develop lifetime fitness and activity skills.
The top 15 finalists received free Flip™ video cameras to create videos bringing to life the health and fitness issues facing their schools and their ideas for making the most of the $10,000 prizes. From Oct. 31-Nov. 20, 2011, the public can watch the videos and vote online at www.HenkelHelps.com to select the three schools they feel deserve to win $10,000 each to help improve youth fitness. The three winning schools will be announced Nov. 30, 2011.
