Final Weekend Before PA Tax Amnesty Ends
HARRISBURG, Pa., June 15, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This is the final weekend for the PA Tax Amnesty program. Individuals and businesses have until midnight, June 19 to pay delinquent taxes and have all penalties and half the interest waived, Acting Secretary of Revenue C. Daniel Hassell said today.
"The clock is ticking for those with back taxes to visit backtax.pa.gov or call 844-727-8283 to take advantage of this program," said Hassell. "We encourage anyone with delinquent state taxes to apply now and settle their debt with the state."
The program will not be extended and after June 19, 2017, a five percent penalty will be added to the amount owed. The department will also continue enforcement actions that recover nearly $600 million a year.
An application and full payment must be received by midnight, June 19, 2017, to be considered for tax amnesty. Payment is accepted by check, money order, credit/debit card, or electronic funds transfer.
The program offers tax amnesty to more than 30 taxes administered by the Department of Revenue including the corporate net income tax, employer withholding tax, sales tax, and personal income tax.
The tax amnesty began on April 21 to provide an estimated $100 million in net revenue for the current year fiscal budget.
Notices about tax amnesty were mailed to delinquent taxpayers from all Pennsylvania counties and every U.S. state. As an incentive to those who have been flying under the radar, individuals and businesses with tax liabilities unknown to the department only have to file and pay taxes dating back to Jan 1, 2011.
Taxpayers can apply or get more information at backtax.pa.gov or by calling 844-PA-STATE-TAX (1-844-727-8283). The call center has extended hours and is available Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Monday from 8:00 a.m. to midnight.
