SAN FRANCISCO, July 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) staff today released proposed revisions to the Draft Plan Bay Area 2040 and the Final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for consideration by the Commission and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG)'s Executive Board. Policymakers will discuss both documents this Friday, July 14 at a joint meeting of the MTC Planning Committee and the ABAG Administrative Committee. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Bay Area MetroCenter, 375 Beale Street in San Francisco. To review the meeting agenda, visit planbayarea.org/get-involved/meetings-and-events. The full Commission and the ABAG Executive Board are slated to meet together on the evening of July 26 to vote on the final Plan and the final EIR.
Like the original Plan Bay Area adopted by MTC and ABAG in 2013, Plan Bay Area 2040 is a long-range plan to guide transportation investment and land-use decisions through 2040, while meeting the requirements of California's landmark 2008 Senate Bill 375, which calls on each of the state's 18 metro areas to develop a Sustainable Communities Strategy to accommodate future population growth and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from cars and light trucks. The proposed final Plan incorporates numerous changes made in response to public comments received following the March 2017 release of the Draft Plan Bay Area 2040. Changes may be reviewed at 2040.planbayarea.org/reports.
MTC is the transportation planning, financing and coordinating agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. ABAG is the council of governments and regional planning agency for the 101 cities and towns, and nine counties of the Bay Area.
