Filesonic Teams Up with Vobile to Protect Copyrighted Digital Content
Vobile vCloud9 Allows Sites to Review Compressed Files Before Publication and Pre-emptively Stop Copyright Infringement
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Vobile a leading provider of content identification and management services, today announced that Filesonic, a leader in cloud storage solutions, will be deploying Vobile vCloud9 to check all files when they are uploaded to its site – including compressed files – for copyright infringement before users are able to share them publicly.
Vobile's vCloud9 is the first such digital protection technology to enable sites to examine content, match it to Vobile's extensive database of digital content 'fingerprints' and pull the questionable content before publication. This represents a huge technological step in preventing pirated content from going viral on the web.
"Filesonic believes the timing is right to take an even more proactive approach against copyright infringement, as the amount of content on the Internet continues to grow, and as its products become victim to abuse by copyright infringers. Given the volume of data on our servers, we went looking for an effective method of checking every media or compressed file uploaded and chose Vobile's vCloud9 as the most effective solution to meet that criteria. Filesonic's implementation of vCloud9 is one of many steps our company has undertaken to deal with copyright infringement, and we look forward to having vCloud9 as part of our arsenal," said Sara Parr, Communications Manager at Filesonic.
"Video fingerprinting technology such as Vobile's is an established, tested and widely adopted way for sites that allow user uploads to prevent the unauthorized distribution of copyrighted content. In this particular case, we look forward to seeing Filesonic implement Vobile's vCloud9 effectively and to more sites and services using effective filtering tools," said Ronald Wheeler, Senior Vice President, Content Protection, Fox Entertainment Group, Inc.
Vobile pioneered VDNA™ Digital Fingerprinting technology to better filter and protect copyrighted content, and in September announced the release of its next generation technology, vCloud9, to specifically address compressed files hidden in cloud storage sites -- files previously immune to identification. Using the storage platform, some users were able to upload unauthorized content without consent, such as copyrighted movies or TV shows. These were saved as compressed files to allow easier file uploading and downloading; however, file compression "hides" the true content, making it difficult to identify.
Because vCloud9 can specifically identify content contained within compressed files, vCould9 helps cloud storage sites comply with international copyright law and provides content owners with a tool to manage the distribution and monetization of their content over the Web.
"We are pleased that Filesonic has chosen Vobile to become a partner in the fight against digital piracy," said Yangbin Wang, CEO, Vobile. "The uploading of copyrighted content has been a challenge for content owners and sites themselves -- particularly with the growing use of compressed files. With vCloud9 they now have the tool to comply with copyright law."
