Fijian Prime Minister to Announce Details of Constitutional Consultation Process

SUVA, Fiji, Feb. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, who is currently touring Fiji's flood-affected areas, will provide details regarding the timeframe and methodology of the constitutional consultation process, as well as the composition of a Constitutional Commission, in the fourth week of February. 

Recent flooding and the continuous weather situation have created obvious logistical complications, which will amongst other things prevent Fijians—in particular those affected by the inclement weather—from fully participating in the process. 

However, the Prime Minister looks forward to the commencement of this important endeavor once Fijians have recovered from the natural disaster.

The Bainimarama Government remains ahead of the timelines identified in the "Strategic Framework for Change" in the lead up to Fiji's Parliamentary Elections. 

Government has selected CODE Inc. from Canada to carry out electronic voter registration, and is expected in Fiji next month. Fiji will also welcome an apolitical United Nations Needs Assessment Mission to assess the technical requirements for the Parliamentary elections. The mission is expected in the country in early March.
