Over the course of three days, Breast Cancer walkers will hit the sidewalks and walkways of the Walt Disney World Resort, averaging more than 10 miles a day, following a suggested journey through the resort's theme parks and other locations. Each day's route is unique taking walkers through a different journey that does not repeat. On day one, they will walk around Disney's Coronado Springs Resort before heading to Disney's Blizzard Beach and finally to Disney's All Stars Resorts. On day two, walkers will travel to Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort and walk to the Downtown Disney area for lunch and shopping before ending the day at the Magic Kingdom. On the last day, walkers will start at Disney's Boardwalk Resort, walk past the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts then head to Disney's Hollywood Studios. We will end the day with a walk to Epcot and a spectacular alfresco dinner next to the World Showcase Lagoon and a private viewing of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.
Unlike other walkathons where participants walk for a single organization, on Walk The World, participants choose the organization that is closest to their heart. "Already we have walkers that will be making a difference for Breast Cancer, Multiple Scleroses, AIDS, Childhood Cancers, Crohn's Disease, and many other organizations and causes," according to organizer Robert Webber.
"There are so many die-hard Walt Disney World fans that are going to love the idea of visiting their favorite theme park while walking to raise money for their favorite charity," Webber says. "In years past, A Walk Around The World participants have traveled to castles in Europe and trekked through historical destinations. This is the first time they'll be given a chance to visit Cinderella Castle and walk miles through a fantasy destination. It's going to be some serious fun — the Walk will be both magical and meaningful."
The registration fee for Walk The World is $350 per person and includes lodging at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, group meals, and group theme park tickets. Single participants will be paired with a roommate, although single rooms are available for an extra charge. Walkers must be 14+ years old to participate. There is a minimum fundraising requirement for the charity of the participant's choice. Non-walking family and friends are also welcome on the event and can take advantage of discount group meals and theme park tickets, but need to share a room with at least one registered walker.
