Fifth Third Bank's Day of Appreciation for Our Veterans Features a Hiring Fair
CHICAGO, Nov. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Fifth Third Bank is proud to honor, aid and offer meaningful support to those who serve our country. This year, as part of its commitment to support the communities it serves, Fifth Third Bank has joined forces with CareerBuilder to offer its first-ever Hiring Fair for veterans, active duty military and their families.
This free employment and career resource will be the highlight of Fifth Third Bank's Fourth Annual Day of Appreciation event on Tuesday, November 11, in the Great Hall of Chicago's Union Station. During the event, CareerBuilder will release the results of a new survey that shows which industries are the most likely to hire veterans.
"There are as many as 50,000 unemployed veterans in Illinois and Indiana. These American heroes have made sacrifices to protect our freedoms. Fifth Third Bank wants to thank them, by helping them find jobs," said Robert A. Sullivan, president & CEO, Fifth Third Bank (Chicago). "We're pleased the public, as well as local military and veterans organizations, can join our employees in assisting veterans through other noteworthy initiatives."
In addition to the Hiring Fair, the public and several nonprofit organizations will connect veterans and their families with the information and resources needed to help them transition to post-military lives and careers. Fifth Third Bank employees will help collect monetary donations for Folds of Honor, which provides scholarships to spouses and children of those killed or disabled in service to our country. They will assist Operation Support Our Troops in gathering donated items and assembling holiday care packages to be shipped to local soldiers serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and other war-torn regions. Volunteers will even join Rebuilding Together Aurora in renovating and refurbishing the home of an elderly, disabled Vietnam veteran.
All of the efforts will culminate at 1 p.m. where a rally featuring local officials and veteran leaders will be held in the Great Hall of Union Station. Here hundreds will gather and honor all those who have served and are serving. Keynote presenter is Eddie Hiner, Navy Seal, who served nine deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. The bank will make a $100,000 check presentation to Folds of Honor Foundation that will fund scholarships of families of wounded or killed soldiers along with $10,000 check presentations to Operation Support Our Troops and War Dogs Making it Home. At the conclusion of the 45 minute event, hundreds of camouflage holiday stockings will be sent off to a local battalion from the Chicago area now serving in Afghanistan.
