BRENTWOOD, Tenn., Dec. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Fifteen Brookdale skilled nursing communities have been named the best in the industry, according to U.S. News & World Report's "Best Nursing Homes" for 2016 - 2017 report. The designation comes as the publication has incorporated new and more demanding standards for the program, which began in 2009.
U.S. News has traditionally awarded the "Best Nursing Home" title to skilled nursing communities that receive a high rating from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). However, it has now added criteria beyond those considered by CMS, examining whether they have demonstrated consistently high quality over time and giving higher attention to medical quality measures. U.S. News also evaluated whether residents with very high or extremely high need for rehabilitation received significantly more time in therapy than CMS mandates for reimbursement.
"We are glad to see U.S. News' additional focus on the individual components of skilled nursing, because this kind of care is complex and multi-faceted," said Charlie Anderson, vice president of skilled nursing operations for Brookdale. "We strive to provide the best possible outcomes for those in our care which pushes us to maintain our quality standards even above those of CMS."
