FierceWireless Names Ossia to "Fierce 15" 2014
Ossia's Cota remote wireless power technology earns spot on list of most promising start-ups
REDMOND, Wash., June 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Ossia, Inc. (www.ossiainc.com), the company behind the Cota remote wire-free charging technology, today announced it has been named to the FierceWireless "Fierce 15" list, designating Ossia as one of the top privately-held wireless companies of the year. FierceWireless editors evaluated hundreds of organizations before choosing Ossia for its annual list, selecting the company for its "fierce" innovation and strong potential for growth in the years ahead.
FierceWireless, an internationally recognized daily email newsletter reaching more than 80,000 senior wireless industry executives, provides executives in over 100 countries with a quick, authoritative briefing on the day's top wireless stories, including new trends and technologies. This year's "Fierce 15" winners reflect the natural evolution of trends in the industry and are focused on fundamental technologies affecting networks, both cellular and Wi-Fi.
"What's remarkable about Ossia is not that its wireless charging technology can transmit up to 1 watt of power up to 30 feet in a non-line-of-sight scenario," said Phil Goldstein, Editor of FierceWireless. "Charging cell phone or remote controls in a home is just the beginning for Ossia. The company has the potential in the years ahead to use its technology to direct power to a wide array of devices and appliances."
The Cota technology is designed to charge many devices simultaneously, regardless of whether a device is stationary or moving. Designed for an effective radius of 40 feet, a single Cota charging station can charge or power all the battery-operated devices in every room of an average home or office suite.
"For Ossia to be honored as one of 2014's top wireless startups by a prestigious publication such as FierceWireless shows that wireless industry experts recognize the revolutionary potential of real wireless charging," said Hatem Zeine, CEO and Founder of Ossia Inc. "We believe that the ground-breaking technology powering Cota will lead to a world where charging is completely effortless, where any worrying about your device's battery life disappears. From there, the floodgates are opened for app developers and device manufactures alike to begin to imagine the new capabilities and features they will bring us when running out of power is no longer a key design consideration. That is a future worth looking forward to."
Using phased antennas to transfer power without the use of inductive coils, ultrasonic waves, magnetic resonance, charging pads or mats, Ossia's patented, Cota wireless charging technology works over the unlicensed 2.4 GHz band without interfering Bluetooth and Wi-Fi use. Cota's charging service operates within the FCC's guidelines for radiation and can provide enough power to fully charge a smartphone six times over during the course of a day. Cota's hardware is also extremely scalable; a receiver for the system can be shrunk down to about the size of a man's thumbnail.
The FierceWireless "Fierce 15" celebrates the spirit of being "fierce," championing innovation and creativity, even in the face of intense competition. The complete list of winning companies is available on the FierceWireless Web site at http://www.fiercewireless.com.
