Field Agent Releases Third Annual Back-to-School Report
As the school year ends, retailers are already gearing up for a busy back-to-school shopping season
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark., May 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Field Agent, the pioneer in mobile audits and research, just unveiled its third annual back-to-school report, entitled "Back-to-School 2016: Insights Into the Spending, Shopping, and Attitudes of American Families." The report provides companies a preview of consumers' BTS shopping, spending, and attitudes.
Five hundred mothers of children entering grades K-12 were surveyed for the report. Collecting survey responses over a single weekend, Field Agent distilled key insights to help brands and retailers prepare for the rush of back-to-school shoppers in the fall.
"We heard back from our clients after our 2015 report and they asked us to provide the 2016 research earlier to assist them with their planning," said Rick West, CEO and Co-Founder of Field Agent. "So this year we're sharing our insights months in advance of actual back-to-school shopping in hopes we can assist retailers and suppliers as they prepare for the event."
When asked if their families will follow a school-provided list, 67 percent of moms said either "completely" or "very closely". When it comes to online purchases, 64 percent of families will purchase at least some school supplies online. While school supplies help keep students sharp in the classroom, they have to look sharp as well. At 96 percent, clothing topped moms' shopping lists of items they intend to purchase for the new school year. View related insights on our blog post for BTS 2016.
Although school is wrapping up for many students, retailers and CPG companies are already preparing for August. If they want to execute well, they will need to be armed with data that provides a clear view of their shoppers' needs, habits, and expectations.
The full report also details whether families anticipate spending more or less on BTS purchases this year (hint: it definitely isn't less), the role of state-sponsored tax holidays, and even which retailers are the go-to destinations for supplies and clothing.
Field Agent created the report to equip retailers and CPG companies with data and feedback from actual shoppers. "This report is a great example of how we're helping our clients look forward with actionable insights as opposed to looking in the rear view mirror with data that is too late to the party," West said.
