SAN FRANCISCO, June 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) today launched TheFibreChannel.com, an informative online portal for the storage networking community published by IT Brand Pulse, a well-respected industry analyst firm covering the IT industry. The new site is designed to help IT professionals who architect, deploy and manage Fibre Channel SAN technology, solve pressing issues and better leverage storage networking resources.
"During this time of dramatic data center evolution, we felt the time was right to launch this portal to give the IT community the answers they seek about Fibre Channel ─ the purpose-built, proven storage network infrastructure that continues to drive business results," said Mark Jones, FCIA Chairman. "Our goal is to provide IT leaders the resources they need to achieve maximum performance for storage area networks that support mission-critical applications."
TheFibreChannel.com portal contains current industry news, informative interviews with leading storage experts and a collection of useful free tools that can be downloaded to improve storage networking management and productivity. The site also includes a rich library of in-depth videos, case studies, white papers, analyst reports and tech briefs that provide insight and timely analysis for storage administrators and other information technologists to further their knowledge of storage management and operations. Additional resources include a solutions and product directory and information on upcoming data center conferences and events.
A "Fibre Channel University" page provides access to educational materials and courses covering SAN technologies and deployment best practices that enable IP professionals to earn certificates in a broad range of storage networking disciplines.
"Critical workloads, high-density virtualization and cloud architectures are pushing the limits of the network, driving ever-increasing requirements for more reliability, performance and simplicity," said Frank Berry, president, IT Brand Pulse and publisher, TheFibreChanel.com. "The FCIA's effort to provide key IT industry decision makers with insights on the Fibre Channel features that can address these requirements will help bring attention to the challenges being successfully tackled today with this trusted and proven network protocol."
Fibre Channel-based solutions remain the top choice for enterprise environments, including 90 percent of Fortune 1000 data centers. TheFibreChannel.com highlights the important role Fibre Channel storage plays in the cloud computing, Internet Service Provider (ISP), digital film production and cyber security industries and the future role it will play in emerging technologies such as OpenStack.
"Despite other competing storage networking technologies, Fibre Channel has remained a large and stable market," said Seamus Crehan, president of Crehan Research. "Our data center research shows that total Fibre Channel switches and adapters combined for close to nine million ports shipped in 2014."
The FCIA is looking to hear from other industry experts and storage networking professionals to provide additional content to TheFibreChanel.com. Please send ideas and articles for consideration to Frank Berry at [email protected].
