National Research Council of the National Academies names Gary Rogers to Board on Energy and Environmental Systems
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., March 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- FEV, Inc., (FEV) a leading developer of advanced powertrain and vehicle technologies, announced today that its president and CEO, Gary W. Rogers, has been named as a board member on the Board of Energy and Environmental Systems (BEES), a unit of the Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences of the National Research Council (NRC). The NCR, the principal operating arm of the National Academies, is a private, non-profit organization that provides science and technology advice under a congressional charter.
The Board oversees a suite of activities and committees to provide expert advice through prestigious, independent, impartial and influential studies on complex issues in science, technology and public policy. By charter, the BEES conducts program-specific studies and provides authoritative and independent advice to the executive and legislative branches of government and the private sector on energy and environmental technology issues and related public policy. The BEES focuses expertise in the areas of:
- Energy supply and demand technologies and systems, including resource extraction through mining and drilling, energy conversion, distribution and delivery, and efficiency of use
- Environmental consequences of energy related activities
- Environmental systems and controls in areas related to fuels production, energy conversion, transmission, and use
- Related issues in national security and defense
As a board member, Rogers brings extensive experience in the research, design and development of advanced engine and powertrain systems that use conventional combustion systems and fuels, and advanced systems that deliver exceptional fuel savings and exhaust emission reduction such as hybrid / electric and systems powered by renewable and alternative fuels.
Rogers' capabilities will strongly support the BEES-directed studies that are its focus. Recent reports issued by the BEES committees includes titles such as "Assessment of Fuel Economy Technologies for Light-Duty Vehicles," "Technologies and Approaches to Reducing the Fuel consumption of Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles," and "Transitions to Alternative Transportation Technologies – Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles."
Rogers has participated in several previous National Academies committees that performed scopes of work at the direction of the BEES. His prior appointments involved serving as a member of several NRC committees under the National Academy of Sciences including: NRC Committee on Program Review of DOE's Office of Heavy Vehicle Technologies; the NRC Committee on the Effectiveness and Impact of Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Standards; the NRC Panel on Benefits of DOE's Light-Duty Hybrid Vehicle R&D Program; and the NRC Committee evaluating the 21st Century Truck Partnership. Prior to accepting the appointment to the Board on Energy and Environmental Systems Rogers most recently served as a member of the NRC Fuel Economy of Light Duty Vehicles Committee.
