Feminine Beauty on the Knokke Seafront
KNOKKE, Belgium, May 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
The bronze statues by the artist Dirk De Keyzer combine the essential elements that make us feel happy: humour, beauty and a touch of eroticism. These are universal themes that over the past twenty years have brought the sculptor worldwide success. "I can't change the world with my sculptures, but perhaps make it more beautiful." This summer, you can enjoy his work at the 19th Sculpture Link in Knokke, where the immensity of the sea is the inspiration for a sculpture route from Het Zoute and Duinbergen along the Zeedijk, past Hotel La Réserve to CC Scharpoord.
Sculptor of figurative poetry
Dirk De Keyzer lives and works in East Flanders. In the summer months, the sculptor moves his studio to sunny France. These places form the starting points of his work. The artist has a passion for bronze and women. "Bronze offers countless artistic possibilities. Imagine a figure that stands on one hand with its body in the air. You can't pull off such a composition in any other material. Furthermore, bronze lasts a long time and I love that, probably because of my desire for immortality. And yes, I mainly make sculptures of women. After all, I'm a man (laughs)! No, seriously, I strive for a particular aesthetic, a personal interpretation of beauty that generally has nothing to do with current fashions. It is a kind of quirky elegance that I find is best manifested in the figure of a woman."
Transcending trends
Dirk De Keyzer's sculptures are usually no bigger than 50 centimetres high, but can easily reach two metres, such as on the sculpture walk to Knokke. De Keyzer's choice to work with varying dimensions means that his artworks are suitable both for the interior and exterior. The bronzes withstand wind and all weathers and become even more beautiful with age. Indoors, they fit into a variety of interior styles. "My work can be found in both sleek, neo-modern interiors and antique-filled mansions and I'm glad. I want my work to be timeless and not tied to a particular fad in the art or interiors world. It needs to transcend the trends."
Happy sculptures
The Belgian sculptor has a career spanning over twenty years and enjoys international success with statues that have been called 'world citizens'. They travel from exhibition to exhibition all over the world, carrying a universal message: happiness. "I like to refer to my sculptures as three dimensional poetry. They contain everything that makes people happy, notably humour, beauty and eroticism."
