HOUSTON, Dec. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Felicia Harris, who has practiced law for nearly two decades, has joined Burleson LLP as a partner in Houston, where she will focus her practice on commercial litigation.
Harris represents local, national, and international businesses in a wide range of industries, including oil and gas, energy services, petrochemical, maritime, financial services, engineering, construction, and telecommunications.
Her background includes commercial matters involving contractual rights and obligations, fraud, trade secrets, noncompetition agreements, fiduciary duties, partnership and joint venture agreements, and real property interests. She is also experienced in issues related to seismic operations, defamation, electronic privacy and monitoring, corporate governance policies, allegations of wrongful death, and public procurement and bidding laws.
Harris said her decision to join the firm was driven by Burleson's blend of traditional law firm values and entrepreneurial ideals.
"There's a unique environment at Burleson that gives attorneys a spirit of independence with the structure they need to thrive in their practice and deliver clients an effective and efficient outcome," Harris explained. "That's critical to any lawyer – especially litigators handling disputes where agility and responsiveness can be the winning advantages."
Rick Burleson, managing partner of Burleson, said Harris' broad depth of knowledge and strategic focus on efficiency translates to big benefits for clients in and out of the energy sector.
"Felicia understands the disruptions lawsuits can bring to a company's operations and the value of delivering effective pre-trial solutions," said Burleson. "But she also knows that settlements are not always the most favorable option for clients. Essentially, she does what's best for the individuals and companies she represents – whether that's trying cases in federal or state courts or taking them to arbitration."
Harris has successfully defended employers against alleged violations of Texas, U.S., and Saudi Arabian employment laws. As part of her oil and gas practice, she has aggressively worked to protect the rights of mineral interest owners through injunctive relief and has assisted in communications with local governments.
Harris is active in her community, serving two elected terms as a councilmember for the City of Pearland and as mayor pro tem from 2009 to 2010.
She also served as a member of the Steering Committee for Emerging Women Leaders through the Greater Houston Partnership, as an advisory board member to Woodway Financial Advisors, and as director of the Pearland Economic Development Corporation. She is a graduate of the Center for Houston's Future Leadership Forum.
Harris earned her undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Texas A&M University and her law degree from South Texas College of Law, where she graduated valedictorian of her class.
