Feinstein Institute Celebrates High School Medical Marvel Winners
MANHASSET, N.Y., March 22, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research and Northwell Health Center for Workforce Readiness celebrated the winners of the Medical Marvels Program, which encourages Long Island high school students in 9th and 10th grades to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). At the event, participating teams presented their findings and received scholarship money.
"The Medical Marvels program encourages students to work in teams and develop creative solutions to real world problems," said Cheryl Davidson, corporate director of Northwell Health Center for Workforce Readiness. "Our goal is to help students realize the multidisciplinary nature of careers in STEM, give them a deeper understanding of how their classroom curriculum is applied to community challenges, and perhaps most importantly, show them how STEM can be fun."

Three participating teams received awards. The winning team received a $1,800 scholarship, the second-place team received a $1,000 scholarship and the third-place team received a $500 scholarship. In addition, two $300 awards for were given for presentations.
The Medical Marvels program believes in the academic promise of all students, and that by investing in their ideas, the future health and well being of our community will be served. We also believe that by investing in youth and giving them a sense of place and responsibility for problem solving in the community, a community ensures that it will have bright and capable future leaders for STEM careers. Medical Marvels is an annual program. Any New York State-accredited educational institution in Nassau or Suffolk counties is eligible to participate.
