FEGS Honors Macy's, People Care, And Unitex At Its Inaugural "Strictly Business" Awards Breakfast
NEW YORK, Feb. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, FEGS Health & Human Services held its inaugural Strictly Business awards breakfast, honoring business leaders who are helping New Yorkers get back to work and back on their feet. The sold-out event was hosted at the Harvard Club by Alair Townsend, columnist at Crain's New York Business and former New York City Deputy Mayor, with a keynote address by Tara Walpert Levy, Managing Director of Global Ads Marketing for Google and YouTube and FEGS board member.
Founded in 1934, FEGS puts thousands of New Yorkers to work every year. They help job seekers navigate their employment and career paths; strengthen their technology skills; and prepare for success in the workplace. They also partner with employers to match qualified candidates to employment opportunities. Last year, FEGS worked with nearly 75,000 individuals to improve their employability and help them find jobs.
Receiving recognition at the event were FEGS' longtime partners Macy's, People Care, Inc., and Unitex. From a single dry goods store opened in New York City in 1858, Macy's has grown into one of the nation's premier retailers for fashion and affordable luxury, and is the largest retail employer in New York City. People Care, Inc., a leading licensed home health care provider throughout New York and New Jersey, provides certified home health aide training and quality care to patients in home settings. Unitex is an internationally recognized leader in supplying health care facilities with complete uniform and linen services. Over the years, FEGS has partnered with these businesses to meet their human capital needs, placing well-trained, qualified candidates in their pipelines, including people overcoming unemployment, healthcare issues, or developmental disabilities.
Gail Magaliff, FEGS Chief Executive Officer, said, "FEGS was started nearly 80 years ago during the Great Depression to help people find employment and to fight workplace discrimination. Our commitment to providing a pathway for New Yorkers to achieve greater self-sufficiency has never wavered. This event gives us a wonderful opportunity to honor the business community for being valuable partners in our work to help individuals achieve greater financial independence and lead productive lives. Together, we work to strengthen New York's economy."
"We employ a large workforce nationwide at Macy's," said Jeanette Whitman-Lee. "Partnering with FEGS ensures we have a staff as vibrant and diverse as New York City. We work hard at attracting, developing, and retaining a talented workforce and FEGS is an important partner in maintaining our inclusive work environment throughout our New York City corporate and stores organization."
Sue Brett of People Care said, "We are truly honored to be among the inaugural honorees for this event. FEGS has been a great partner of ours and we're happy to work with them to train and place motivated, compassionate employees in our home care business."
"Unitex has been working with FEGS for over 10 years. Through FEGS, we're able to find diverse, high-quality employees for our staff, and we're excited to serve as an example of how they can be a resource to businesses," said David Potack.
FEGS employs a highly skilled team of over 700 employment and workforce professionals in offices throughout the greater New York area. They deliver a broad range of workforce and staffing solutions for businesses across sectors and help people at all levels enter or return to the workforce, partnering with companies to ensure a robust and diverse New York economy.
