Feeding South Florida and QLink Wireless Provided Thanksgiving Meals for 500 Broward Families
COOPER CITY, Fla., Dec. 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- QLink Wireless, a national provider of free cell phones and airtime to low-income Americans under the Federal Lifeline Assistance Program, teamed up with Feeding South Florida (FSF) to provide 500 families in need with Thanksgiving dinner at New Wine Ministries in Cooper City.

Each family received a 16-pound turkey, stuffing and a bounty of fresh, local produce. The parking lot was set up like a farmers market so the families could select their items and fill the oversized reusable "QLink Cares" bags.
Participating low income families were referred by local social service agencies, not-for-profits and homeless shelters that work closely with FSF. New Wine Ministries provided the venue and shuttle service for families without transportation.
"Our company has an obligation to help South Florida's less fortunate," said Issa Asad, CEO of Dania Beach-based QLink Wireless. "It was a privilege for my family and 25 of our employees to help make Thanksgiving possible for many who have challenges making ends meet."
Since 2010, South Florida has seen an increase of 40 percent in the reliance of emergency food programs. Currently, Florida is ranked twelfth in the United States for food insecurity, and nearly 150,000 adults have been forced to choose between paying bills and putting food on the table.
QLink Wireless management lead by CEO Issa Asad and 25 employees distributed the food along with FSF staff and other volunteers including Cooper City Mayor Gary Ross, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Bishop Thomas Douglas and Joseph Storehouse Feeding Ministry.
