Feeding America Strongly Opposes FY2016 Congressional Budget Resolution Cutting Federal Help For Struggling Americans

"Last week the U.S. Senate approved the FY2016 Budget Resolution.  With approval by both the House and Senate, the spending recommendations in the budget will have a real impact on low-income Americans served by food banks.

"The budget lays out a blueprint that could undermine the federal nutrition safety net for the next ten years by calling for large reductions in federal spending that are not possible without making huge cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, commonly known as food stamps).

"Feeding America is disappointed that the budget focuses on reducing the deficit and balancing the budget at the expense of many programs that help low-income Americans.

"SNAP provides critical food assistance to struggling families as they confront a slowly recovering economy, and the likely result of this budget proposal is that millions of people will lose their SNAP benefits, or see them significantly reduced, at a time when there is still great need."
