Feeding America Strongly Endorses the Stop Child Summer Hunger Act of 2015
CHICAGO, June 10, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Statement Attributable to Matt Knott, president of Feeding America:
"Feeding America strongly endorses the Stop Child Summer Hunger Act of 2015, which would provide an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card to low-income families to help them purchase food during the summer months when school is out and they no longer have access to school breakfast and lunch.
"More than 21 million children receive free or reduced-price lunch at schools during the school year, but only 18 percent of those children receive a summer meal. If we want to close the summer meal gap, we need to invest in additional ways to reach kids. We are proud to support their legislation to expand the summer EBT program, a program with a demonstrated record of success.
"The Legislation was introduced by Senator Patty Murray of Washington and Representative Susan Davis of California."
