Feeding America Launches Digital Update of Healthy Food Bank Hub
Relaunch of Microsite Provides more Comprehensive Resource for Health Professionals and Food Bankers
CHICAGO, June 9, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization, in partnership with National Dairy Council® and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation, today announced the digital update of the Healthy Food Bank Hub. The Healthy Food Bank Hub is an interactive microsite that provides tools and resources for both public health professionals looking to learn more about hunger, and food banking professionals looking to further promote a healthful lifestyle to their clients.
Initially launched by Feeding America and its partners in October of 2013, Healthy Food Bank Hub updates include:
- New tools and a resource landing page
- New search features including a larger search box and large tag cloud
- A "top 10" for food bankers and RDs with the most beneficial resources
- New recipes and handouts
"As the leading voice in the fight against hunger in America, we not only want to provide adequate food and support for those at risk of hunger, but also provide simple tools and resources to make healthy food choices possible," said Michelle Berger Marshall, director of nutrition at Feeding America. "Working with the leading nutrition organizations in the country, we were able to update the Healthy Food Bank Hub digital capabilities to help streamline the site to be a more efficient tool for anyone who visits."
National Dairy Council and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation have been longstanding strategic partners in Feeding America's mission to solve hunger through raising awareness of the issue, nutrition education and working to improve access to nutritious foods such as low-fat and fat-free milk and dairy foods, produce, lean sources of protein and whole grains.
Feeding America and The National Dairy Council have made a concerted effort to support the nation's food banks who are now receiving fewer than 24 gallons of milk donated each year.
As National Dairy Month is celebrated this June, Feeding America and National Dairy Council will continue working together on The Great American Milk Drive campaign to help improve access to the nutritional value of milk to Feeding America's network of food banks across the country.
