Feeding America is Nation's Third Largest Charity, According to Forbes Magazine
Cited for a 99 Percent Fundraising Efficiency Rating
CHICAGO, Dec. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization, has moved up one spot and now ranks No. 3 on Forbes Magazine's list of the 50 top charities for 2014. Research for the Forbes list was based on financial data from 2013. Forbes Magazine released their annual list today.
Feeding America had been rated the No. 4 charity by Forbes in 2012 and 2013.
The article noted that Feeding America's recorded gifts of $1.86 billion for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2013, mainly donated food, were up by 22.7 percent from the previous year.
The article also noted that Feeding America has a 99 percent fundraising efficiency, and a 98 percent charitable commitment.
"This tremendous accomplishment was made possible by our donors and supporters who enable us to meet the daunting task of providing food and groceries to more than 46 million Americans this year," said Bob Aiken, CEO of Feeding America. "It is gratifying to see our organization continue to grow, but we are acutely aware that our growth has been necessitated by the significant challenge of meeting the needs of the one in seven Americans who now turn to us for help."
Feeding America's placement on the list of the 50 largest charities is based on the amount of donations received in the latest fiscal year, as opposed to government grants, fee for service or investment revenue. In Fiscal Year 2013, Feeding America received more than $1.5 billion in cash and in-kind donations.
As year-end approaches, Feeding America encourages people to give the gift of meals to those facing hunger. Each $1 donated helps to provide ten meals to Americans struggling with hunger. Make a difference and Give a Meal by visiting www.feedingamerica.org/giveameal.
