Feeding America Deeply Disappointed In House Failure To Pass The Supporting America's Charity Act

CHICAGO, Dec. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Statement attributable to Bob Aiken, CEO of Feeding America:

Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger relief organization, is deeply disappointed in the failure of the House of Representatives today to secure enough votes to pass HR 5806, the Supporting America's Charity Act. The legislation needed to secure 290 votes to move forward procedurally, and failed by a vote of 275-149. 

The legislation would have made permanent three important charitable giving provisions to strengthen charities across America, make it easier for farmers and small businesses to donate food to food banks, and encourage land conservation easements that protect our natural resources for future generations.

"This was a missed opportunity for Congressional leaders to work together to enact common-sense, bipartisan legislation that would have an immediate and profound impact for our food banks and the 46.5 million struggling Americans we help feed every year.
