Feeding America and Bank of America Partner to Tackle Hunger in America
Bank Commits to Fifth Year of 2:1 Donation Match through Give A Meal
CHICAGO, Aug. 31, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Feeding America® and Bank of America today announced the launch of the fifth annual Give A Meal charitable program. The leading domestic hunger-relief organization and the financial institution are collaborating for a nationwide fundraising program that aims to help individuals who face hunger in America. For every $1 donated through Give A Meal, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will give $2 more, up to $1.5 million – giving donors the opportunity to amplify their support for individuals and families who face hunger.
"For years, Bank of America has been a strong partner to the Feeding America network of food banks, supporting our efforts to stabilize the lives of Americans struggling with hunger," said Matt Knott, president of Feeding America. "This is an issue that often goes unseen, but truly impacts every community. We encourage all Americans to support their neighbors in need by making a donation through Give A Meal."
More than 49 million Americans struggle with hunger, including 16 million children. The Feeding America nationwide network of food banks responds to the hunger crisis by providing nutrient-rich food to people in need. Through this partnership, Bank of America supports the hunger-relief efforts of local food banks. The organization also will make a separate $1 million contribution to Feeding America's national office to support national programming.
"Many families are faced with challenging financial decisions every day," said Kerry Sullivan, president of the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. "As a large financial institution, we can bring our collective networks together with Feeding America's expertise and truly make an impact on the pressing issue of hunger."
Give A Meal kicks off in September during Hunger Action MonthTM, Feeding America's month-long national hunger awareness campaign. Bank of America and other hunger-relief advocates will join Feeding America in an effort to engage the nation in the fight to solve hunger. As in previous years, thousands of Bank of America employees across the country will volunteer with hunger-related non-profits as a way to help these organizations deliver valuable programs and services to help people facing hunger.
Since 2010, Give A Meal has helped provide more than 45 million meals* through the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks. Bank of America serves as the exclusive holiday partner for Give A Meal.
