Feed the Children and PepsiCo Unite to Defeat Hunger in Birmingham, Ala.
Food to supplement meals for a week and other supplies help 800 Birmingham families
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Oct. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Eight hundred Birmingham families in need will receive enough food to supplement meals for a week plus daily essentials, thanks to a partnership between PepsiCo and Feed the Children. The event kicks off at 11 a.m. CDT at Birmingham Crossplex, 2337 Bessemer Road Birmingham, AL 35208.
This is the third year PepsiCo and Feed the Children have partnered to help feed families in Birmingham, where more than 30 percent of the population lives below the poverty line1. This event is part of a larger initiative between the two organizations to help feed communities in cities throughout the United States.
The receiving families have been identified and preselected by the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District, a nonprofit dedicated to providing affordable housing for qualified families in Birmingham and the City of Birmingham Mayor's Office Division of Youth Services.

Each qualifying recipient at today's event will be given:
- One 25-pound box of nonperishable food items
- One 10 to 15-pound box of personal-care items
- One box of AVON products
- Frito-Lay Variety Pack
- PepsiCo beverages
- Quaker Life Original Cereal
- Quaker Oatmeal
- Quaker Granola Chewy Bars
- Canned food provided by Piggly Wiggly
- Fresh produce from Publix
Volunteers from PepsiCo, Buffalo Rock Company, Piggly Wiggly, Publix, Housing Authority Birmingham District and the City of Birmingham Mayor's Office Division of Youth Services and Feed the Children will be onsite serving families and assisting with distribution at today's event.
