FedEx Corporation extends support for InterAction's NGO Aid Map: New focus on China, India, and Mexico
WASHINGTON, Sept. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- InterAction is pleased to announce that FedEx Corp. has extended its support for NGO Aid Map. The map, an online interactive tool that charts the work of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) worldwide, was launched in January 2011 with FedEx support. The first map, Haiti Aid Map, was developed to help link U.S. NGOs with the private sector following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
NGO Aid Map features over 3,000 projects from more than 100 organizations and is currently focused on Haiti, the Horn of Africa, and food security and agriculture globally. By mapping the work of InterAction members, NGO Aid Map helps NGOs, donors, and the public make more informed decisions about potential partners and where to direct their resources.
With the additional support from FedEx, InterAction will promote disaster-preparedness by expanding NGO Aid Map to include information on programs in three target countries – China, India, and Mexico. Knowing before a disaster occurs who is working in that country improves the international community's response when a crisis strikes. This expanded site aims to facilitate links between humanitarian and development actors. Close to half of InterAction's nearly 200 members work in at least one of these countries.
"FedEx is proud to support InterAction and the development of their groundbreaking NGO Aid Map," said Jack Muhs, senior vice president of FedEx Express and InterAction Business Council advisory board member. "Disaster preparedness and response are primary philanthropic focus areas at FedEx and NGO Aid Map has proven invaluable in bringing visibility to who is doing what, where in humanitarian response to disaster."
"The funding from FedEx will allow InterAction to expand NGO Aid Map to provide critical information to those responding to a disaster. Knowing who is already in-country following a disaster helps improve the coordination of aid and bridges the transition between humanitarian response and long-term development. We are thrilled that our relationship with FedEx is continuing," said Samuel A. Worthington, InterAction's president and CEO.
In addition, InterAction and FedEx will launch the "FedEx Award for Innovative Programming in Disaster Preparedness." This new award will recognize and raise the visibility of innovative disaster preparedness programs.
