WASHINGTON, April 8, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NGO alliance InterAction is pleased to announce that FedEx has awarded additional funding of $329,000.00 for InterAction's NGO Aid Map through December 2014. The map, an online interactive tool that charts the activities of InterAction members, has evolved over the past three years through the unique collaboration between InterAction and FedEx Corporation. FedEx began supporting the initiative in January 2011 and now has given over $1 million toward the effort.
This collaboration illustrates FedEx and InterAction's shared commitment to improving information sharing and innovation in disaster preparedness. InterAction's NGO Aid Map provides comprehensive data on humanitarian and development organizations to help forge private-NGO partnerships in advance of a disaster, aligning with FedEx's goal to help communities receive faster, better services when a disaster strikes. Through this initiative, InterAction and FedEx have increased NGOs' visibility and commitment to transparency and data sharing.
"The continued support of FedEx has been crucial in establishing InterAction as a leader in aid transparency and open data – particularly when it comes to disaster preparedness and resilience. With the additional funding, NGO Aid Map will expand to include information on all countries, and in all sectors. This new data could help determine where crucial assistance is needed before and after a disaster. We are very pleased that the relationship will continue," said Samuel A. Worthington, president and CEO InterAction, the largest alliance of U.S.-based international NGOs.
In addition to the global map, InterAction and FedEx will continue the second year of the "FedEx Award for Disaster Preparedness." This award recognizes innovative programs that facilitate the transition from relief to development in the aftermath of conflict and large-scale natural disasters.
